SpaceKind II Livestream: Jedi Speaking and the Power of Community
TESA founder Diallo Wallace went live with his SpaceKind cohort for a Jedi Speaking session — a practice from Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides' book Space Kind (Chapter 5) that trains participants to speak authentically and from the heart.
What is SpaceKind?
SpaceKind is a transformative training program created by Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides focused on Spaceship Earth — building community, authentic communication, and personal growth. The program welcomes everyone, whether you're passionate about exploring outer space or committed to making life better here on Earth.
Highlights from the Session
Using a spinning wheel to randomly select speakers, each cohort member shared a personal Jedi Speaking exercise:
-
Barbara, a solar scientist of 30+ years, drew a profound connection between the 100,000-year journey of photons from the sun's core to the importance of standing up for science and the engines of discovery.
-
Allison shared her deeply personal story of being laid off from the federal government, choosing alignment over fear, and discovering that flow doesn't mean life is easy — it means trusting yourself enough to keep moving. Her mantra: "Does it sizzle your soul?"
-
Kimberly, a NASA veteran, told two unforgettable stories — bolting from a bunker to watch a Delta rocket launch at Vandenberg, and jumping over a dinner table to see elephants parading through Nashville — reminding us that life is too short to watch it on a screen.
-
Liam reflected on his journey from building the first ISS Above device for his 3-year-old grandson in 2013 to becoming a Space TV Director bringing 4K Earth views from the ISS to the public — all through sharing openly, letting community participate, and treating life as an experiment rather than a pass/fail test.
-
Diallo Wallace closed with a powerful message about signal-to-noise ratio: recognize who the TIE fighters are in your life, acknowledge the heroes reinforcing your inner voice, and choose to amplify the signal that says "yes, you can" over the noise saying you can't. Referencing Dr. Carol Dweck's Mindset, he challenged everyone to embrace a growth mindset and find opportunities in discomfort.
Key Takeaways
- Listen to your inner voice — amplify the signal, minimize the noise
- Treat life as an experiment — every outcome moves the mission forward
- Community matters — share what you're up to and let others be part of the journey
- Flow isn't always smooth — trust yourself enough to keep moving when it's uncomfortable
- Don't trade authenticity for approval — step out and pursue what matters to you
